Timing belts in Sandiacre
The cambelt is the one service item where being late doesn't mean a worse bill, it means a different bill entirely.
On most engines the belt keeps the valves and the pistons out of each other's way. If it goes while the engine is running, they meet, and what was a belt change becomes an engine rebuild or a replacement engine.
Manufacturers set an interval in years as well as miles, because the belt ages whether you drive it or not. A low-mileage car that's eight years old can still be overdue.
