The garage you can walk to

We're an independent garage on Town Street in Sandiacre. Not a chain, not a franchise, not a booking platform that sends your car somewhere else. You ring the garage, and the person who answers is the person who has the car.

Twenty years on the same stretch of road

Whatever it is you need doing, the thing you're really weighing up is whether the garage will still be there next year, and whether they'll remember your car. We've been at 61 Town Street a long time. The photograph below was taken in 2006 and the workshop is the same building, on the same corner, with the sign in the same place.

That is worth more to you than any strapline. A garage that has to keep its neighbours happy for two decades behaves differently from one that will not see you again. Hannah Barnes, whose review is on this page, had been bringing her car here for eighteen years when she wrote it.

The workshop at 61 Town Street: a single-storey rendered building with a blue fascia, roller shutter doors and a painted sign reading Town St Garage.

What a Trust My Garage member is

It matters to you because it is the one thing on this page you do not have to take our word for. Trust My Garage is run by the Independent Garage Association, part of the Retail Motor Industry Federation, and its member garages sign up to a published code of practice. We are listing 5423, and you can look us up on their site before you ring.

The practical version: if you think we have got something wrong and you cannot settle it with us, there is a trade body to take it to. That is what the scheme gives you. It is not a quality award and we are not going to dress it up as one.

The same goes for the MOT. We are DVSA station V109641, testing Class 4, and that number is on the DVSA's own list rather than something we printed ourselves.

How we'd rather work

You get told what the car needs and what it does not. Several of the reviews below say some version of the same thing: a fault looked at and found to be nothing, a job priced sensibly, a customer who has stopped shopping around. That is the whole pitch, and it is theirs rather than ours.

What we will not do on this page is invent a list of promises. There is nothing here about how fast we answer the phone or what anything costs, because until the owner has said those words out loud they are not ours to write down. Ring and ask, and you will get a straight answer from the person doing the work.

Ring the garage

You will get somebody in the workshop rather than a call centre. Have the registration to hand.
